Building Capacity

There is great excitement in the world of sports, especially when Vancouver was declared the site for the 2010 Winter Olympics! ASRA also has great excitement, especially when it received funds for its Aboriginal Youth FIRST (Futures In Recreation and Sport Training) Sport Excellence Program! This program leads directly into National and International Sport Forums, the North American Indigenous Games and the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship. The challenge is maximizing the benefits of these opportunities for our people, and ASRA is poised to act.

ASRA continues to prepare for growth in program and service delivery. This growth will be consistent with the vision of Aboriginal people, while fulfilling the visions of mainstream sport. Vision of enhanced participation, enhanced excellence, enhanced capacity, and enhanced interaction will guide future direction.

ASRA will continue to support and build on its leadership role with the international, national and provincial Aboriginal sport system. ASRA will also continue to establish partnerships with other multi-sport organizations and provincial sport organizations, keeping in mind the best interest of Aboriginal people.

ASRA will maintain its focus on building a Youth voice and leadership in all its regions. This Youth voice will compliment the grassroots voice of the ASRA Board of Directors.

ASRA looks forward to meeting the challenges of growth, and change.
